Cultural Triangle Tours

The best time to visit is during the dry season from May to September. The Cultural Triangle is in Sri Lanka's dry zone, so it receives less rainfall than coastal areas. December to March is also good, though it can be busy with tourists. The area can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F), so early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended.

A minimum of 3-4 days is recommended to see the main sites (Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura). However, 5-7 days would allow for a more relaxed pace and the inclusion of additional experiences like wildlife safaris at Minneriya National Park, visits to less-known ruins like Ritigala, and cultural experiences in local villages.

Pack lightweight, breathable clothing that covers shoulders and knees (required for temple visits), comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and a small backpack. A sarong or scarf is useful for temple visits. During the rainy season (October-November), bring a light raincoat or umbrella.

This varies by tour operator. Some include entrance fees in their package prices, while others list them separately. Entrance fees to major sites like Sigiriya ($30), Anuradhapura ($25), and Polonnaruwa ($25) can add up, so it's important to check what's included. Most day tours do not include entrance fees, while multi-day packages often do.
